Coinbase UK stock trading began on Thursday for eligible users, giving them access to nearly 4,000 U.S. equities in the same app used for crypto and fiat holdings. The company said it will widen access in stages to all UK users. Trades carry zero commission, and users can buy fractional shares from as little as £1.
Users can fund trades with GBP or USDC. Coinbase also said clients can use stablecoin balances directly to buy stocks. Meanwhile, the service runs 24 hours a day, five days a week, beyond the usual trading hours of the NYSE and Nasdaq.
Coinbase UK Stock Trading Follows FCA Approval
The launch came after a July 2026 authorization from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority. That approval allowed Coinbase to offer investment services beyond crypto for the first time. As a result, the company began building equities, derivatives, stablecoin payments, savings, and borrowing products on one platform.
Coinbase said it plans to add tokenized real-world assets later. The same approval also opened derivatives access for institutional and advanced traders. Those products include crypto, equity, and commodity perpetual futures.
UK Product Push Expands Further
Stock dealing is the latest step in Coinbase’s UK product buildout over the past year. In November 2025, the firm launched a GBP savings account with ClearBank. It initially paid 3.75% AER and included FSCS protection.
Then, in April 2026, Coinbase added a crypto-backed borrowing product built on Morpho. That service lets UK users borrow USDC against Bitcoin and Ethereum holdings through an on-chain smart contract, rather than through a Coinbase balance sheet.
Coinbase said the broader aim is to narrow the gap between how users manage digital and traditional assets. It described that plan as an “Everything Exchange” spanning crypto, stocks, derivatives, savings, and borrowing on one platform. However, the company is entering a market where eToro already offers stocks, ETFs, commodities, and cryptocurrencies through one account.
The UK rollout also comes before the country’s wider crypto rules take full legal effect on October 25, 2027. Firms can begin applying for licenses under that regime in late 2026. Coinbase said easier access to U.S. equities could raise UK retail stock participation, although it did not publish the survey data it cited.
