Vanuatu stablecoin commissioner Jackson Miake began the role in July 2026, according to his LinkedIn profile, which lists the post as a contract position with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management. Before that, Miake worked at Exness as a Governance Risk and Compliance Specialist from January to July 2026. Finance Magnates said it found no public statement on the appointment from the ministry, the VFSC or the SSC.
Vanuatu’s Parliament passed the Stablecoins Bill in 2025. The law created a Stablecoin Supervisory Commission, or SSC. It also set rules for issuer licensing, reserve requirements, disclosure duties and regulatory oversight.
Vanuatu Stablecoin Commissioner Rules
Under the law, the SSC appoints the Commissioner for a five-year term. It may renew the term once. The law also says the selection must rest on merit and follow a fair and transparent process.
Additionally, the law bars any appointment unless the person has at least five years of experience in a senior management role tied to the Commissioner’s duties. Those duties include calling SSC meetings and preparing agendas and minutes. The role also covers tracking SSC decisions, helping put them into effect, mobilising resources, and preparing annual strategic plans and work programmes.
Miake’s Recent Work History
Earlier, Miake served as ICT Policy Manager at Vanuatu’s Department of Communications & Digital Transformation from August 2012 to September 2018. In that job, he worked on policy development and implementation for the ICT and telecommunications sectors. Later, from July to December 2025, he completed a Team Leader – Security Operations Centre internship at the SOC Australian Cyber Security Aide Centre.
Miake also holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Massey University. Meanwhile, an event biography from April 2025 described him as a Western Sydney University student studying cybersecurity and human behaviour. Finance Magnates said no public explanation had been issued on how officials assessed the legal eligibility requirements for the Vanuatu stablecoin commissioner appointment.
