CME Group Reports Strong Start for 24/7 Gold Futures

Forex24NewsBy Forex24NewsJuly 28, 2026No Comments2 Mins Read

CME 24/7 gold futures drew nearly 15,000 traded contracts in their first weekend, with CME Group saying that volume equaled about $60 million in notional value.

The exchange operator announced the figures on Monday after it rolled out round-the-clock trading for its 1-Ounce Gold futures contract. The new setup lets clients trade regulated gold futures at any hour and on any day of the week. Meanwhile, CME Group said the early activity showed solid demand at launch.

Jin Hennig said gold remains a global safe-haven asset and noted that major events do not pause on weekends. He also said the launch showed that retail traders were ready for always-on, regulated products sized to help manage gold exposure.

CME 24/7 Gold Futures Launch

Adam Hickerson said the new CME 24/7 gold futures give customers a way to trade regulated futures contracts at any time of day from any time zone. He added that the product brings instant real-time digital access to gold.

CME Group also pointed to broader strength in its gold business this year. The company said its gold futures have averaged a record $125 billion in notional value traded each day in 2026. Additionally, the 1-Ounce Gold futures contract, which launched in January 2025, posted average daily volume of 87,000 contracts in the first half of 2026.

Metals Trading Hits First-Half Record

The company said its metals business reached a first-half record, helped by precious metals trading. Average daily volume across the metals segment rose to 1.3 million contracts. That marked a 55% increase from a year earlier.
