European session wrap dollar falls as the greenback lost ground across major peers in European morning trade on August 14.
The move came in a mixed market session. Oil prices edged higher, bond yields moved up early and then eased back, while European stocks changed little. Meanwhile, U.S. futures held small gains on the day.
EUR/USD rose 0.3% to 1.1567. The pair retested its 100-day moving average again. At the same time, USD/JPY fell 0.2% and moved closer to the 159.00 level.
European Session Wrap Dollar Falls Across Majors
The source described trading in the dollar as one-way in the European morning. As a result, the U.S. currency weakened across the board. However, the broader market tone stayed mixed rather than clearly risk-on or risk-off.
U.S. 10-year yields touched 4.665% earlier in the session. They later pulled back, leaving yields little changed at 4.645%. Therefore, the drop in the dollar came even as yields did not fall sharply.
Gold Rebounds as Oil Stays Firm
Gold gained 0.3% to $4,362 after recovering from early losses. Earlier in the day, the metal fell as low as $4,311 before turning higher. Meanwhile, WTI crude rose 0.5% to $81.64.
The report said oil looked set to post weekly gains of more than 5%. It also said there were no fresh developments on the U.S.-Iran conflict. However, the Strait of Hormuz remained in de facto closure after Iran again threatened ships, this time UAE oil vessels.
Elsewhere, European indexes were mostly little changed. U.S. futures also posted only a marginal rise, though Wall Street looked to build on the S&P 500 record close from the prior session.
