German wholesale prices July rose 0.2% from the prior month and 5.3% from a year earlier, as fuel costs increased after a temporary energy tax cut ended.
The July monthly reading followed a 0.7% drop in the prior month. Meanwhile, the annual rate picked up from 4.9% previously. The report said petroleum products drove much of the monthly increase.
Prices for petroleum products climbed 4.0% in July from June. The source linked that move to the end of the temporary reduction in the energy tax rate on gasoline and diesel, which expired after June 30. Compared with July 2025, petroleum product prices were more than 24% higher on average.
German Wholesale Prices July and Fuel Costs
Fuel was not the only area to move in July. However, prices for non-ferrous ores, metals, and semi-finished metal products fell 3.9% on the month. Even so, that category remained 27.8% above its level from the same month a year earlier.
The source also reported a rise in information and communication technology equipment prices. That category increased 1.1% from the previous month. Additionally, it was 9.0% higher than in July last year.
Other July Price Moves
Taken together, the data showed German wholesale prices July moved higher again after the prior month’s decline. Moreover, the source said energy remained the biggest part of the annual increase. It also said the broader rise was not limited to energy alone.
