US business inventories June came in at 0.0% in June 2026, below the 0.1% estimate in data cited by InvestingLive.
The prior month showed a 0.3% gain, which the report revised up to 0.4%. Meanwhile, retail inventories excluding autos fell 0.4% in June. That compared with a decline of 0.2% in the prior month. InvestingLive also said sales fell sharply in June, although they remained strongly higher from a year earlier.
US Business Inventories June and Sales Ratio
The total business inventories-to-sales ratio stood at 1.30 at the end of June on a seasonally adjusted basis. That was lower than the June 2025 reading of 1.39. However, the report said the 1.30 level was above the lowest point seen since 2021.
InvestingLive said flat inventories and strong yearly sales created an important setup for June. Sales were up 10.0% from a year earlier, while inventories were unchanged from the prior month. As a result, the gap between inventory levels and sales remained tight.
Retail Inventories Ex Autos Fall
The report said this mix could support a future inventory rebuilding cycle if sales stay firm. Moreover, it said such a move could add support to production and GDP in the months ahead. The key issue, according to the report, is whether sales remain strong enough to push businesses to restock.
The estimates for manufacturing and trade inventories and sales came from three surveys. These were the Monthly Retail Trade Survey, the Monthly Wholesale Trade Survey, and the Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories, and Orders Survey. Additionally, the report said wholesale and manufacturing data were unrevised, while retail data were revised and shown in greater detail from the most recent Advance Economic Indicators Report.
