BME Equinix MD6 move is set for the second quarter of 2027, when Spain’s stock exchange will shift its matching engines to Equinix’s MD6 site in Madrid.
BME will move the systems from its long-used data centre in Las Rozas. The change marks a key step in a broader colocation update by parent group SIX. Meanwhile, SIX has been bringing more of its exchange hosting to Equinix locations across Europe.
BME Equinix MD6 Move Timeline
The planned transfer will take place in the second quarter of 2027. As a result, trading firms will be closer to the main Spanish platform for equities and derivatives. The source said the current setup has been based in Las Rozas for a long time.
SIX has also been consolidating exchange hosting at other Equinix sites. Notably, the article cited ZH4 in Zurich as one of those locations. However, the report did not give further details on the wider rollout.
Connectivity Firms Prepare for Madrid Shift
Connectivity providers are already getting ready for the change. TNS business Waypoint Trading Solutions said this week that it is launching services in MD6 before the migration. Therefore, firms using those links may prepare ahead of the exchange move.
The relocation will place market participants nearer to BME’s core trading infrastructure in Madrid.
