easyMarkets Q2 trading review showed retail traders took a more cautious approach in the second quarter of 2026, with gold leading activity on the broker’s platform.
The broker said overall trading volumes fell from both Q2 2025 and Q1 2026. Clients became more selective because markets lacked a clear direction. As a result, traders focused on short-term chances and kept tighter control of risk.
Giannis Nikola, Chief Risk Officer at easyMarkets, said the main theme of the quarter was how traders handled risk rather than which market they chose. He said clients cut overall exposure and used stop-loss orders more often. He added that geopolitical events and macroeconomic uncertainty made longer market trends harder to read.
easyMarkets Q2 Trading Review Highlights
Gold held its place as the most traded instrument in Q2. Crude Oil ranked second, while US Stock Indices took third place. According to the broker, demand for gold stayed firm as traders looked for traditional safe-haven assets during uncertain conditions.
Oil also stood out during the quarter. easyMarkets said tensions in the Middle East, especially concerns tied to the Strait of Hormuz, drove sharp price swings and lifted trading activity in energy markets. However, clients still kept a measured stance and did not broadly raise risk.
Risk Controls Shape Client Behavior
The broker said day trading remained the top strategy in Q2. That approach let clients respond to short-term moves while avoiding extra overnight exposure. Meanwhile, traders placed greater focus on risk control before opening positions.
The easyMarkets Q2 trading review also pointed to wider use of stop-loss orders during volatile periods. Overall exposure stayed relatively conservative, which matched the cautious tone seen across the quarter. Furthermore, the broker said this pattern suggested retail traders were putting more weight on discipline and capital preservation.
Looking ahead, easyMarkets said macroeconomic data and geopolitical developments are likely to keep shaping market sentiment. It added that inflation releases, interest rate expectations, energy markets, and global equity indices will remain key areas to watch.
