Goliath Ventures CFTC lawsuit centers on claims that the firm and its CEO, Christopher Delgado, ran a $397 million crypto Ponzi scheme tied to bitcoin and ether trading.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission filed the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The agency said about 1,600 customers put at least $397 million into the operation. It alleged that Delgado and Goliath Ventures misused all customer funds.
According to the complaint, the money paid for Delgado’s personal spending. The CFTC also said the firm sent account statements that showed profits that did not exist. Meanwhile, some customers received fake returns funded by newer deposits.

The regulator is seeking restitution, disgorgement, civil penalties, trading bans, registration bans, and a permanent injunction under the Commodity Exchange Act. Delgado pleaded guilty in June 2026 to related federal criminal charges. Additionally, the SEC filed its own civil case against Delgado and Goliath on August 11, 2026.
The source said Goliath is the largest in a series of crypto Ponzi cases the CFTC has brought this year. In July, the agency also charged Trevor L. Vernon and Argent Capital Management LLC in the Western District of North Carolina. That complaint alleged they raised more than $14 million from at least 60 participants between March 2022 and February 2026.
Other Crypto Fraud Cases This Year
The CFTC said Vernon and his firm sent fabricated performance reports. It also alleged they used money from new investors to pay earlier ones and hide losses. Meanwhile, CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said the agency would keep policing fraud, abuse, and manipulation in crypto asset markets.
The source also said the Department of Justice moved in July 2026 to drop charges against Matthew Goettsche. He had been accused of defrauding investors of $722 million through the BitClub Network mining operation. Goliath Ventures and Delgado had not responded to the CFTC complaint as of publication.
