SBI Solana Global is set to target Japan’s on-chain finance market after SBI Holdings partnered with the Solana Foundation and agreed on an equity investment in SBI R3 Japan.
Under the deal, the Solana Foundation will buy a stake in SBI R3 Japan. It will join SBI Holdings and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group as shareholders. However, the companies did not disclose the financial terms.
The company is expected to change its name to SBI Solana Global after standard corporate steps. SBI said the venture will build an on-chain market for real-world assets, stablecoins and institutional settlement in Japan.
SBI Solana Global Focus Areas
SBI Solana Global will work on four main areas. First, it will support stablecoins, including the issuance and distribution of JPYSC and other yen-based tokens. Second, it will focus on tokenising real-world assets.
The partners plan to place corporate bonds, commercial paper, real estate and investment funds on Solana infrastructure. Meanwhile, the third area is cross-border settlement. SBI said the platform aims to link Japanese financial assets with global liquidity pools.
The fourth area covers payment infrastructure for AI agents. However, the companies did not give a launch date.
Japan Framework Supports SBI Solana Global
The partnership uses Japan’s current rules for stablecoins and security token offerings. The article said this framework is among the more established regimes in major financial markets. SBI said the venture aims to strengthen Japan’s role as a regional center for on-chain finance.
The structure combines regulated Japanese financial assets with Solana’s public blockchain infrastructure. These assets include stablecoins issued under Japan’s Payment Services Act and tokenised securities that follow current disclosure rules.
Still, several details remain unclear. SBI did not disclose the size of the Solana Foundation’s stake, product launch schedules or revenue targets. Additionally, SBI did not say whether Bitbank, SBI VC Trade or another group company will distribute products developed through the venture.
The announcement follows other digital asset moves by SBI, including a regulated yen stablecoin launch with Startale in March, RLUSD distribution in Japan through Ripple, and a non-binding letter of intent to acquire Bitbank.
